Entry Requirements

Candidates should have –
(a) (i) Level 2 or equivalent [See Note (1)] or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) [See Note (2)], or equivalent; or
(ii) Level 2 [See Note (3)]/Grade E or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) [See Note (2)], or equivalent; and
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 [See Note (3)] or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent; and be able to speak fluent Cantonese.
Remarks
(1) For civil service appointment purpose, Attained in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
(2) The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language.
(3) For civil service appointment purpose, Grade E in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to Level 2 in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(4) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate’s overall assessment.
(5) Candidates who have obtained or will obtain in 2021 the Certificate of Proficiency in Dental Surgery Assisting or the Diploma in Dental Surgery Assisting awarded by the Prince Philip Dental Hospital, or have passed the probationary examination for Dental Surgery Assistant run by the Department of Health or the then Medical and Health Department, or equivalent, may have an advantage.
(6) Applicants should submit copies of relevant documents in support of their (i) academic qualifications; (ii) language proficiency; and (iii) qualification in Dental Surgery Assisting (if applicable).
 

Duties

A Dental Surgery Assistant is mainly deployed on –
(a) assisting the Dental Officers in the dental clinics in the treatment of patients; and
(b) sterilising and supplying dental materials and undertaking other related duties in the dental clinics.

(Remarks: Appointee is required to wear uniform whilst on duty and may be required to work outside normal working hours.)

Terms of Appointment

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Master Pay Scale Point 5 (HK$17,675 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 17 (HK$35,040 per month).

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. Application Forms [G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)] are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website at (http://www.csb.gov.hk).

Applications, together with the required documents mentioned in Note (6), submitted in person or by post should reach the contact address below on or before the closing date for application (the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application). Please specify the title of the post being applied for on the envelope.
