Entry Requirements

Candidates should -
(a) be registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Hong Kong established under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance, Chapter 138;
(b) hold a valid Practising Certificate issued by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Hong Kong; and
(c) have met the language proficiency requirements of ‘Level 1’ or above results in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) in the Common Recruitment Examination (“CRE”) or equivalent (Note 2), and be able to communicate in Cantonese / Chinese and English.
Remarks
(1) Relevant experience acquired after registration with the Pharmacy Boards in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and USA may be accepted as post-registration experience.
(2) (a) Candidates’ results in the Use of Chinese (“UC”) and Use of English (“UE”) papers of CRE are classified as ‘Level 2’, ‘Level 1’ or ‘Fail’, with ‘Level 2’ being the highest.
(b) ‘Level 5’ or above and ‘Level 4’ in Chinese Language of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (“HKDSEE”) are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 2’ and ‘Level 1’ results respectively in the UC paper of CRE. ‘Level 5’ or above and ‘Level 4’ in English Language of HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 2’ and ‘Level 1’ results respectively in the UE paper of CRE.
(c) Grade ‘C’ or above and Grade ‘D’ in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (“HKALE”) are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 2’ and ‘Level 1’ results respectively in the UC paper of CRE. Grade ‘C’ or above and Grade ‘D’ in Use of English of HKALE or in English Language of the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) (“GCE A Level”) are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 2’ and ‘Level 1’ results respectively in the UE paper of CRE.
(d) Candidates with an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (“IELTS”) within the two-year validity period of the test are considered as having met the English language proficiency requirement of the Registered Pharmacist position. The IELTS test result must be valid on any date during the application period, i.e. from 1 April 2022 to 21 April 2022.
 

Duties

A Registered Pharmacist is mainly deployed on -
(a) COVID-19 related duties, including overseeing the operation of the dispensaries in Quarantine Centres, provision of professional support in relation to COVID-19 vaccines, etc;
(b) Coordinating between the pharmacy of Hospital Authority and respective medical posts at the Quarantine Centres in the arrangement of medication refilling and other drug-related issues for the persons under quarantine;
(c) undertaking inspection, licensing, investigations, pharmaceuticals and proprietary Chinese medicines registration and other related duties in respect of medicines;
(d) undertaking drug monitoring, drug procurement and related duties;
(e) taking charge of a dispensary / pharmacy unit;
(f) assisting in the coordination and implementation of facilitation measure of allowing the use of HK registered pharmaceutical products by designated medical institutions in the Greater Bay Area; and
(g) assisting Senior Pharmacists in administrative duties.

(Remarks: May be required to
(1) work irregular hours or perform shift duties to provide 24-hour coverage, work on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays;
(2) perform duties at boundary control points and Quarantine Centres; and
(3) attend duties during emergencies.)

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms up to one year. Renewal of contract will be subject to the service need of the Department and the performance of the candidate.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

HK$48,860 to HK$53,500 per month, depending on the year of relevant post-registration experience (Note 1)
Candidates appointed are eligible for 14 days’ paid annual leave. Other benefits such as rest days, public holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity / paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the Employment Ordinance (Cap. 57).

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend recruitment examination and / or interview.

(g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions / Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the contact address indicated.

Applicants should state in detail in the application form their requisite qualifications attained together with the relevant post-registration experience, and registration number in the Register of Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Hong Kong established under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance, Chapter 138. Applications submitted in person or by post should reach the contact address indicated. Please specify ‘Application for the position of Registered Pharmacist in the Department of Health’ on the envelope. To avoid delayed or unsuccessful delivery of applications by post, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been affixed before posting. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate. Applicants will bear any consequences arising from paying insufficient postage. Applicants may also apply online through the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Applications submitted by fax or e-mail will not be accepted.
