Entry Requirements

(a) (i) A Hong Kong bachelor's degree in English Language, or equivalent;
(ii) A certificate in education from a Hong Kong tertiary educational institution (preferably major in English Language), or equivalent; and
(iii) At least 5 years' relevant post-degree experience in teaching English Language, curriculum development, quality assurance, school improvement or school support focusing on English Language education at pre-primary or primary level, and/or academic research(preferably language education research); OR
(i) A certificate in education from a Hong Kong tertiary educational institution (preferably major in English Language), or equivalent;
(ii) A Master's Degree in Teaching English as a Foreign or Second Language (TEFL/TESL), or equivalent; and
(iii) At least 10 years' relevant experience in teaching English Language, curriculum development, quality assurance, school improvement or school support focusing on English Language at pre-primary or primary level, and/or academic research(preferably language education research); OR
(i) A bachelor's degree in English Language or English Language Education, or equivalent;
(ii) Teaching English as a Foreign or Second Language (TEFL/TESL) qualification(at least at certificate level) or a recognised teacher training qualification in pre-primary education, at least at Qualified Kindergarten Teacher qualification level; and
(iii) At least 5 years' relevant experience in teaching English Language and curriculum development at pre-primary level; and/or academic research(preferably language education research);
(b) Met the language proficiency requirements of Level 3 or above in English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [See Note (ii)];
(c) Preference will be given to candidates who have a higher degree in education or Early Childhood Education, good knowledge of the local education system and curriculum and language education research; and experience in training and development of teachers, curriculum and resource development, school support in English Language teaching, research and development projects and/or language education research;
(d) Good computer skills, and/or knowledge and experience in teaching resources development by using multi-media means preferred; and
(e) Good command of English language and effective communication in Chinese language preferred.

(1) The Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) was established in 1996 to advise Government on language education issues in general as well as on the use of the Language Fund.
(2) For appointment purpose, 'Grade C' and 'Grade E' in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to 'Level 3' and 'Level 2' respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth. 

Duties

(a) To plan, organise and conduct professional development programmes for kindergarten (KG) principals and teachers;
(b) To provide school-based support services to KG principals and teachers on planning and implementing English language activity/unit/curriculum plans and exploring effective English language learning/teaching strategies;
(c) To assist in planning and conducting research studies, including literature search, design and pilot research tools, collect and analyse data, draft reports, etc;
(d) To develop English language learning and teaching resources;
(e) To facilitate and monitor the application of good practice and learning/teaching resources in KGs;
(f) To organise and conduct district-based/territory-wide seminars/experience-sharing activities for dissemination of good practices and learning/teaching resources to KGs;
(g) To report regularly to the supervisors on work progress; and
(h) To perform any other duties as and when required by the supervisors for enhancing the quality of English language education at pre-primary level.

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidates will be employed on non-civil service contract terms for 2 years.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

$66,362 per month
(a) 14 days annual leave and full pay sickness allowance whereas rest days, statutory holidays(or substituted holidays), maternity leave, where appropriate, will be granted in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance. (b) A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 10% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
