An Experimental Officer is mainly deployed on weather forecasting, data processing, radioactivity, hydrometeorological, physical oceanographic, seismological, and time services duties. An Experimental Officer may be required to attend an in-house training course in meteorology during his/her probationary period. He/She may be required to work outdoors, shifts or outside normal office hours.
(Note : An Experimental Officer is required to satisfactorily complete the department’s Applied Meteorology Course for Forecasters for passage over the probation bar.)
Terms of Appointment
Successful candidates will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probationary bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
Salary and Fringe Benefits
Master Pay Scale Point 14 ($28,725) to Master Pay Scale Point 27 ($53,195) per month.
General Notes
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to further shortlisting. (i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their diplomas/certificates, transcripts of studies and official documents issued by the relevant academic institutions, by mail within one week after close of application to the enquiry address. Candidates who apply online should mark “For application of Experimental Officer” on the envelope and quote the online application number on the copies of every page of supporting documents. Documents of local qualifications are not required at the application stage.

Application forms [G.F.340 (Rev. 3/2013)] are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centre of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Completed forms should reach the following enquiry address on or before the closing date for application. Please state the post to be applied on the envelope. Candidates should ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage is affixed before posting so as to avoid unsuccessful delivery of application. As shortlisting criteria may be applied for selecting better qualified candidates to selection interviews, candidates should state clearly in their applications full record of employment and academic qualifications (including the major(s) of their degree(s) and the class of honours awarded). Candidates who are selected for written examination/interview will normally receive an invitation in about eight to ten weeks from the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for written examination/interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
