Entry Requirements

Candidates should have –
(a) a Diploma or Higher Certificate in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a Hong Kong polytechnic/polytechnic university, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education or a technical institute/technical college, or equivalent [See Note (1)];
(b) a completed and recognised apprenticeship or two years' relevant practical training in electrical or mechanical engineering;
(c) at least five years' post-qualification experience in the manufacture and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment, including relays, motors and instruments; and
(d) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [See Note (2)].

(1) Academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions / Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. Holders of such qualifications should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the enquiry address.
(2) For civil service appointment purpose, 'Grade E' in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to 'Level 2' in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(3) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate's overall assessment.

An Assistant Superintendent of Aids to Navigation is mainly deployed on servicing, installing and repairing aids to navigation, including lighthouse equipment and machinery, marine lights, light buoys, fog signals, compressors, etc.

Terms of Appointment

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Master Pay Scale Point 24 ($46,420 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 33 ($70,090 per month)

Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to the Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate.

Candidates who apply online should submit the supporting documents mentioned below by post to the enquiry address on or before 29 November 2019. The online application number should be quoted on the envelope and the copies of supporting documents. The required supporting documents are as follows –
(a) for candidates holding qualification obtained from institutions or authorities outside Hong Kong, please provide copies of certificates and transcripts in support of the academic/professional qualification, including results achieved in Chinese and English languages;
(b) for candidates holding academic qualification obtained from local institutions, please provide copies of transcripts showing the subjects studied, including results achieved in Chinese and English languages; and
(c) supporting documents of work experience showing nature of work/position held.

Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation (by email or by post) in about six to eight weeks from the closing date for application.
