Entry Requirements

Candidates should have –
(a) (i) Level 3 or equivalent [see Note (1)] or above in five subjects, including English Language and one other subject which may be Mathematics; Economics; Geography; or Business, Accounting and Financial Studies, in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE), or equivalent; or
(ii) Grade E or above in two subjects at Advanced Level in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination and Level 3 [see Note (2)]/ Grade C or above in three other subjects, including English Language and one other subject which may be Mathematics; Economics; Statistics; or Geography, in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent; and
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 [see Note (2)] or above in Chinese Language and Level 3 [see Note(2)] or above in English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent; and
(c) at least three years’ experience in supervising staff; and
(d) a good knowledge of Hong Kong’s external trade.

(1) For civil service appointment purpose, “Attained with Distinction” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade C in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 3 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
(2) For civil service appointment purpose, “Grade E” in Chinese Language and “Grade C” in English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to “Level 2” in Chinese Language and “Level 3” in English Language respectively in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(3) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate’s overall assessment.
 

Duties

A Statistics Supervisor is mainly deployed on –
(a) assisting a Statistician or a Senior Statistics Supervisor in the control of a section;
(b) supervising the work of subordinates engaged in processing of trade declarations and cargo manifests, including the statistical classifications for merchandise trade;
(c) handling correspondences and other contacts with members of the public on matters related to the processing of trade declarations and cargo manifests or the supply of related statistical information;
(d) assisting a Statistician or a Senior Statistics Supervisor in maintaining or developing processing systems for trade declarations and cargo manifests; and
(e) enforcing sections of the Import and Export (Registration) Regulations.

Terms of Appointment

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, the officer may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

Master Pay Scale Point 9 (HK$21,585 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 27 (HK$53,195 per month)

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessment on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates in person or by post to the below enquiry address.

Completed application forms together with (i) copies of certificates and transcripts in support of the academic qualifications (including copies of certificates and transcripts showing the results achieved in Chinese and English languages) and (ii) a full curriculum vitae (CV) submitted in person or by post should reach the below enquiry address on or before 23 January 2020.

The CV should set out the details of full employment records to date, which include (i) detailed description of duties; (ii) exact employment period(s); and (iii) number and rank(s) of subordinate(s) under applicants’ supervision.

If applications are late or incomplete, or not made in the prescribed form, or submitted by fax or e-mail, or without copies of the required supporting documents and the CV or if the required supporting documents and the CV are received after the above specified dates or are insufficient, such applications will NOT be considered.
