Entry Requirements

Candidates should:
(a)(i)be solicitors admitted in a recognized jurisdiction as stipulated under Section 2A and Schedule 2 of the Legal Officers Ordinance and have at least 3 years' post-qualification professional experience; or
(ii)be barristers with at least 4 years' professional experience since attaining the right to full practice in a recognized jurisdiction as stipulated under Section 2A and Schedule 2 of the Legal Officers Ordinance;
(b)have knowledge of and experience in land law or property conveyancing;
(c)have attained Level 3 or above in English Language and Level 2 or above in Chinese Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination; or equivalent; and
(d)be fluent in English and Cantonese.

Successful candidates will be responsible for:
(a)providing legal advice on matters relating to land disposal, land exchange, lease modification, land acquisition and other matters concerning land;
(b)drafting and scrutinizing land documents including Conditions of Grant/Exchange/Lease Extension, Modification Letters, Deeds of Surrender, No-objection Letters, Waiver Letters, Short Term Tenancies, Licences and other land documents;
(c)checking and approving title in land resumption and land exchange cases and approving resumption and surrender documents and checking execution of land documents;
(d)providing relief in the provision of legal advisory and conveyancing services; and
(e)performing such other duties as may be assigned.

Terms of Appointment

The successful candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for one year.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

HK$70,465 to HK$89,845 per month (depending on post-qualification experience)
(a)A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract period with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
(b)Rest days, statutory holidays, annual leave, maternity leave or paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted on terms no less favourable than the provisions of the Employment Ordinance.

General Notes

(a)Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview without being subject to any further shortlisting criteria. (g)Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the above enquiry address.

(a)Application forms [G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)] are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centre of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Service Division, Labour Department. The form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau's Internet website (http://www.csb.gov.hk).
(b)Completed application forms, together with a full curriculum vitae should be sent with the envelope clearly marked “Application for the post of Contract Solicitor” to the enquiry address below on or before the closing date for application. The curriculum vitae should include (i) results in LLB, CPE, PCLL, Law Society Final and Bar Final examinations listing the gradings of the subjects taken (with copies of transcripts and certificates); (ii) exact date and place of admission/call; and (iii) employment records with detailed description of duties.
(c)On-line application can also be made through the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Candidates who apply online should submit copies of their full curriculum vitae within three working days after close of application period (i.e. by 19 March 2020) to the enquiry address below, and the online application number should be quoted on the envelope and the copies of supporting documents.
(d)Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation in about six weeks from the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
(e)If candidates fail to provide the supporting documents as requested, their applications will not be considered. Applications which are incomplete, late or not duly signed will not be accepted. This department will not accept any unpaid or underpaid mail items. Please ensure that mail items bear sufficient postage before posting.
