Entry Requirements

Applicants should (a) be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; (b) be full-time students studying degree programme in the fields of Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology offered by local / non-local accredited post-secondary institutions; (c) have completed their first year of study before July 2020; and (d) not be graduates of 2020.

To assist engineers and inspectors in undertaking engineering-related tasks; various studies and projects; data capturing, consolidation and management; or IT support and development tasks.

Terms of Appointment

Summer Intern is engaged under non-civil service appointment. Employment period is from June to August 2020. He / She is normally required to work 44 hours per week.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

$10,500 per month
Rest day, statutory holidays, general holidays, sickness days, where appropriate, will be granted to the successful candidate in line with the provisions in the Employment Ordinance.

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(f) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to any further shortlisting criteria.

How to apply

(a) (i) Hong Kong students studying in local post-secondary institutions should apply through the Student Affairs Offices/Career Centres of their respective institutions. You are advised to note the deadlines set by the respective institutions. (Direct applications from students are not accepted); or
(ii) Students studying in non-local post-secondary institutions should complete application form together with copies of certificates of their student status and academic transcripts should be posted to Assistant Departmental Secretary / Recruitment and Promotion 3, 7/F, Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, 3 Kai Shing Street, Kowloon, Hong Kong on or before the closing date for application (according to postmark). Please specify on the envelope “Application for Post-Secondary Student Internship Programme”; and
(b) Applicants are required to submit an essay in English of no more than 300 words on why they apply for this Programme and what they want to achieve from it.
(c) Applications which are late, incomplete, or without the required essays or copies of the required documents will not be considered. Please ensure that sufficient postage is paid. An applicant will bear any consequences arising from not paying sufficient postage.
(d) Those who have not received a reply from Electrical and Mechanical Services Department by 30 June 2020 may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
