Salary History

1. 見習科學助理 $13,400 per month 2015-08
 

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have:
(a)(i) Level 3 or above in Mathematics;
(ii) Level 3 or above in Physics, or Information and Communications Technology, or an appropriate science subject; and
(iii) Level 2 or above in three other subjects, in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE), or equivalent[Note (1) & (2)] ;
or
(b)(i) Grade C or above in Mathematics;
(ii) Grade C or above in Physics, or Computer and Information Technology, or an appropriate science subject; and
(iii) Level 2/Grade E or above in three other subjects, in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examaination (HKCEE), or equivalent[Note (1) & (3)] ;
and
(c) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent [Note (3)] ; and be able to speak fluent Cantonese.

1. The subjects in (a)(iii) & (b)(iii) above may include Chinese Language and English Language.
2. For civil service appointment purpose, “Attained” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in HKDSEE.
3. For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in previous HKCEE is accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
4. For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate’s overall assessment.

A Student Scientific Assistant is mainly deployed on undertaking formal and on-the-job training for a period of two to three years in general scientific work, such as weather observing, coding and chart analysis, radioactivity monitoring, operation and calibration of scientific instruments, scientific computations, operation and utilisation of information technology systems and applications development. He/she may be required to work outdoors, shifts, outside normal office hours, or in adverse weather condition.
Note : A Student Scientific Assistant who has satisfactorily completed at least two years' training, passed a departmental examination and is considered to have fulfilled the requirements of the grade and service need may be promoted to the Scientific Assistant rank.

Terms of Appointment

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

Training Pay Scale Point 5 ($15,895) to Training Pay Scale Point 7 ($18,040) per month

(i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. Application forms [G.F.340 (Rev. 3/2013)] are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centre of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Completed forms should reach the following enquiry address on or before the closing date for application. Please state the post to be applied on the envelope. Candidates should ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage is affixed before posting so as to avoid unsuccessful delivery of application. Any underpaid mail items will be returned or disposed of by the Hongkong Post. On-line application can also be made through the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). As shortlisting criteria may be applied for selecting better qualified candidates to selection interviews, candidates should state clearly in their applications full record of employment and academic qualifications (including the major(s) of their degree(s) and the class of honours awarded). Candidates who are selected for written examination/interview will normally receive an invitation in about ten weeks from the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for written examination/interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
