Entry Requirements

Candidates should –
(a) have an accredited Higher Diploma/ Associate Degree in:
- Engineering of a relevant discipline such as Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, Building Services, Structural, Civil, Electronic or Chemical Engineering; or
- Building or Chemical Technology; or
- Applied Chemistry, Applied Physics, Analytical Science, Material Science or Occupational Safety and Health
from a Hong Kong tertiary institution or Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, or equivalent;
(b) have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) Note , or equivalent; and
(c) speak fluent Cantonese.

(1) For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ and ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.

(2) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate’s overall assessment.

An Occupational Safety Officer II is mainly deployed on –
(a) undertaking inspection and enforcement work in respect of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance and their subsidiary regulations;
(b) undertaking promotion and publicity work for enhancement of occupational safety; and
(c) undertaking education and training work for enhancement of occupational safety.

Terms of Appointment

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. He/she will be required to satisfactorily complete both classroom and on-the-job training, and to pass two departmental examinations. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Master Pay Scale Point 13 ($28,780 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 28 ($58,635 per month).

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.
