Entry Requirements

(a) (i) A Hong Kong bachelor's degree with major in Chinese Language or Chinese Language education, or equivalent [See Note (2)];
(ii) A certificate in education from a Hong Kong tertiary educational institution preferably major in Chinese Language, or equivalent [See Note (2)];
(iii) At least 5 years' relevant post-degree experience in teaching Chinese Language, curriculum development, quality assurance and school improvement and/or school support focusing on Chinese Language education at pre-primary or primary level [See Note (3)]; OR
(i) A certificate in education from a Hong Kong tertiary educational institution preferably major in Chinese Language, or equivalent [See Note (2)];
(ii) A master's degree in Chinese Language, Chinese Language education, or equivalent [See Note(2)];
(iii) At least 10 years' relevant experience in teaching Chinese Language, curriculum development, quality assurance and school improvement and/or school support focusing on Chinese language at pre-primary or primary level [See Note (3)];
(b) Met the language proficiency requirements of Level 3 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [See Note (4)];
(c) Preference will be given to candidates who have a higher degree in education or Early Childhood Education, good knowledge of the local education system and curriculum; and experience in training and development of teachers, curriculum and resource development, and/or school support in Chinese Language teaching, research and development projects;
(d) Good computer skills, and/or knowledge and experience in teaching resources development by using multi-media means preferred; and
(e) Good command of Chinese language and effective communication in English language preferred.

(1) The Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) was established in 1996 to advise Government on language education issues in general as well as on the use of the Language Fund.
(2) Applicants should mark clearly on their application forms the major and minor subjects studied in their degree/certificate of education courses. Applicants possessing additional qualifications (e.g. a second/higher degree in a relevant subject) should include details in their applications.
(3) Applicants should mark clearly in their application forms the nature and relevancy of post-qualification experience.
(4) For appointment purpose, 'Grade C' and 'Grade E' in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to 'Level 3' and 'Level 2' respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth. 

Duties

(a) To negotiate with participating organisations to ensure the quality of graded readers developed for the Project on the Development of Chinese Language Graded Readers for Non-Chinese Speaking Children (the Project);
(b) To centralise graded readers printed by various participating organisations and arrange the distribution to schools;
(c) To collect feedback from schools so as to enhance the framework for the further development of Chinese graded readers;
(d) To perform budgetary control and financial management for the Project;
(e) To monitor and report the progress of the Project;
(f) To prepare committee papers and organise meetings; and
(g) To supervise the work of subordinate(s).

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidates will be employed on non-civil service contract terms for 1.5 years.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

$66,362 per month
(a) 14 days annual leave and full pay sickness allowance whereas rest days, statutory holidays, maternity leave, where appropriate, will be granted in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance.
(b) A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 10% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
