Entry Requirements

Candidates should have [Note (2)] -
(a) a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science from an institute recognised by the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board of Hong Kong, or equivalent;
(b) registered in Hong Kong as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Part II of the Register of Medical Laboratory Technologists under the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance (Cap. 359);
(c) a valid Practising Certificate issued by the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board of Hong Kong; and
(d) met the language proficiency requirements of “Level 2” or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [Note (3)].

(1) Relevant experience refers to full-time working experience in the medical laboratory service after registration in Hong Kong as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Part II of the Register of Medical Laboratory Technologists under the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance (Cap. 359).
(2) Candidates who are expected to meet the requirement by the end of July 2020 may also apply.
(3) Grade C” and “Grade E” in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to “Level 3” and “Level 2” respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth. 

Duties

Performing general and specialised laboratory tests; quality control; preparation of reagents and media; assisting in evaluation of testing methodologies and equipment, surveillance of infectious diseases of public health significance and research; and other duties as assigned.

Note : required to work irregular hours and perform shift duties to provide 24-hour coverage, work on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for 12 months. Renewal of contract will be subject to the service need of the Department and the performance of the candidate.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Monthly salary at HK$18,795 – HK$25,545, plus end-of-contract gratuity
(Note: The actual level of pay of a successful candidate will be subject to his/her number of years of relevant experience [Note (1)])
(a) An end-of-contract gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. The amount of gratuity payable will be the sum which, when added to the Government's contribution to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance (Cap. 485), equals to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
(b) Rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), annual leave, maternity/paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions in the Employment Ordinance.

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. As for qualifications obtained from institutions outside Hong Kong, copies of the relevant transcripts/diplomas/certificates or other qualification documents should be submitted together with the completed application forms.
