Entry Requirements

Candidates should-
(a) (i) possess Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (Civil or Geotechnical Discipline) elected after 5 December 1975, or equivalent [see Note (1)]; and have 2 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering; or
(ii) possess a recognized professional qualification in engineering geology or geology, or equivalent, such as Chartered Geologist status of the Geological Society of London, UK; and have 2 years’ experience in engineering geology or geology; and
(b) have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [see Note (2)].

(1) In order to meet the entry requirement (a), applicants holding non-local professional qualifications only should prove the equivalency of such qualifications by the closing date for application, with supporting documents such as evidence of acceptance of their qualifications by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers for admission to its Corporate Membership (Civil or Geotechnical Discipline).
(2) For non-civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(3) Candidates should attach copies of their HKDSEE/HKCEE results and proof of Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (Civil or Geotechnical Discipline), or equivalent, together with a detailed account of their academic work and relevant working experience in a prescribed format to their applications. Successful candidate(s) will be assigned to specific offices of the Civil Engineering and Development Department and mainly be deployed on undertaking geotechnical studies, design and construction supervision and geotechnical control; improving geotechnical standards and technology; managing consultancies and contracts; providing geological, advisory, ground investigation and material testing, slope maintenance and emergency services; and controlling quarrying activities and the use of explosives. [see Note (4)].

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidates will be appointed on one year non-civil service contract terms.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

HK $55,680 per month
An end-of-contract gratuity equivalent to 15% of the total basic salary may be granted if the contract is satisfactorily completed. Such gratuity will include the contribution made by the Government towards a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Scheme Ordinance. Rest days, statutory holidays, annual leave, maternity/paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions in the Employment Ordinance and the contract terms.

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment.

If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to any further shortlisting criteria. (g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the enquiry address.

Completed forms, together with the required documents mentioned in Note (3), should be forwarded to the enquiry address of the recruiting department on or before the closing date for application.
