Entry Requirements

Candidates should have/ be –
(a) a First or Second Class Honors degree from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent, in biology, chemistry, environmental science, earth science or life science, with units or papers taken in aquatic biology, environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology, oceanography, hydrology or related subjects;
(b) at least four years’ post-qualifications full-time relevant working experience in scientific research or project management at an appropriate level of responsibility;
(c) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 (Note) or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent (Note: “Grade E” in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to “Level 2” in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth);
(d) good command of spoken Cantonese and English; and
(e) proficient in computer knowledge and skills, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Chinese input method.

The successful candidate is mainly responsible to:-
(a) carry out research into emission sources, prevailing approaches and investigate control strategies to tackle pollution of different types of microplastics for Hong Kong;
(b) provide professional support to microplastics related matters, including field surveys, voluntary scheme to phase out microbeads, report and literature review, etc.;
(c) oversee the project of field surveys to collect information on personal care and cosmetic product (PCCP)s and other products related to microbeads and microplastics in retail outlets and supervise a team of supporting staff;
(d) provide support to various public relation events and other projects.

Other Job-related Requirements: The hours and venues of work may be varied having regard to the operational needs of the department. The successful candidate may be required to (a) work irregular hours and overtime, including evenings and weekends and public holidays; and (b) work occasionally outdoors.

Terms of Appointment

The successful candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for two years.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

HK$44,665 per month
14 days paid annual leave will be granted to the successful candidate. The eligibility for rest days, statutory holidays (or substitute holidays), maternity / paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, is in line with those provided for under the Employment Ordinance. A gratuity may be granted at the end of the contract period if the contract is satisfactorily completed with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 15% of the total basic salary received during the contract period.
