An Assistant Trade Controls Officer is mainly deployed on -
(a) enforcing legislation in relation to consumer protection, including product safety, trade descriptions and fair trading; certificates of origin, import and export licences covering prohibited articles, and import and export declarations;
(b) inspecting premises and operations in relation to factory registration and applications for certificates under the Certification of Origin System;
(c) conducting cargo examination on goods imported or exported at entry and exit control points and / or other premises;
(d) verifying import / export declarations and assessing values of import / export consignments for collection of declaration charges and clothing industry training levy;
(e) carrying out licensing and regulatory work on money service operators, including compliance inspection for the purposes of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing; and
(f) conducting investigation under the relevant legislation.
(Note: An Assistant Trade Controls Officer is mainly engaged in outdoor duties, may be required to work in irregular hours, or to perform shifts and / or on-call duties, and make arrests and give evidence in court.)
Terms of Appointment
New recruits will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. New recruits will be required to pass an Assistant Trade Controls Officer Induction Course. He / She may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms upon satisfactory completion of the probation period.
Salary and Fringe Benefits
Master Pay Scale Point 10 (HK$24,070 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 21 (HK$42,545 per month) [see General Note (d)]
General Notes
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the Written Examination.
