Entry Requirements

Candidates should have -
(a) (i) a Diploma or Higher Certificate in Theatre and Entertainment Arts, Stage Management or Theatre Production from a Hong Kong polytechnic university/polytechnic or Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education/technical college/technical institute, or equivalent; or

(ii) a Diploma or Higher Certificate in Theatre and Entertainment Arts, Stage Management or Theatre Production from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, or equivalent; and 2 years’ relevant post-qualification experience in stage management or theatre production; and

(b) not less than 6 years’ full-time post-qualification working experience in operation and maintenance of performing arts technical facilities, theatre production or theatre-related events; and

(c) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 [see Note (i)] or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent; and

(d) a pass result in the Basic Law Test [see Note (iv)].

(i) For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(ii) Candidates should state clearly in their applications their full record of employment, academic qualifications and Chinese and English languages proficiency level. Applications which did not provide all information as requested or which are not clear that the candidates have met the entry requirements will not be considered.
(iii) All qualifications required should be obtained on or before the application deadline. Qualifications obtained after the application deadline will not be considered.
(iv) All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their Basic Law knowledge. A pass result in the Basic Law Test is an entry requirement for civil service jobs requiring non-degree / non-professional qualifications at or above completion of secondary education level. Only those candidates who have passed the Basic Law Test will be considered for appointment. Attaining a score at or above 53 out of the full mark of 100 (i.e. getting at least 8 out of 15 questions correct) will be deemed to have a pass result in the Basic Law Test. The Basic Law Test result will also constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate’s overall assessment. For candidates who have not taken the Basic Law Test or have not attained a pass result in the Basic Law Test at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the Basic Law Test during the recruitment process.

A Technical Officer I, Cultural Services in Stage Work Type is mainly deployed on:-

(a) assisting and deputizing the Senior Technical Officers in overseeing the overall stage management and operations;
(b) providing technical advice and ensuring safe stage operations during booking sessions; assisting and executing plans for maintenance, replacement, enhancement and renovation of stage equipment and facilities; and
(c) supervising technical staff in stage operations, administration and upkeep of stage equipment and facilities.

(Notes: Members of the grade –

(1) may be required to undergo training relevant to the duties of the grade and work irregular hours; and
(2) are subject to posting and transfer within their respective streams and work types at the discretion of the Head of Grade / Department.)

Terms of Appointment

New recruits will be appointed on three years’ civil service agreement terms. An end-of-agreement gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of tour of service required by his agreement. The amount of gratuity payable will be the sum which, when added to the Government’s contribution to the Mandatory Provident Fund Scheme, equals 15% of the total basic substantive salary drawn during the agreement period. Upon completion of the three years’ civil service agreement terms, the officer may be appointed on the prevailing permanent terms.

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.
