Entry Requirements

The applicant should have (a) a veterinary qualification registrable in Hong Kong under the Veterinary Surgeons Registration Ordinance, Cap. 529; (b) a higher qualification in pathology or relevant laboratory discipline; such as membership of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists or diplomate in a relevant discipline, or equivalent; (c) a minimum of 5 years’ experience in providing diagnostic pathology services; and (d) fluency in written and spoken English. Preference will be given to those candidates with qualifications making them authorized to advertise as, or profess to be, a specialist in a relevant discipline in Hong Kong.

Head of Diagnostic Services (Veterinary Pathology) is mainly deployed on (a) performing diagnostic pathology for investigation and monitoring/surveillance of terrestrial and aquatic animal diseases; (b) providing scientific and technical advice on issues pertinent to animal and public health, disease diagnosis and control/prevention; (c) providing veterinary anatomical pathology and histopathology training to and supervising trainee pathologists; (d) maintaining laboratory preparedness to investigate major endemic, emerging/re-emerging, zoonotic and exotic disease incidents; (e) providing input into the laboratory quality management system; (f) providing other laboratory related technical advice as needed; (g) assisting in managing relevant administrative activities of the laboratory.
(Note: Required to work in laboratory located in the New Territories. Also may need to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends, Sundays and public holidays on occasion.)

Terms of Appointment

The successful candidate will be appointed on non-Civil Service contract terms for a period up to 3 years, thereafter renewable subject to operational needs and the staff's conduct and performance.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

$126,220 per month
Rest days, public holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity leave, paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance. 14 days paid annual leave will be granted. A gratuity plus the Government’s Mandatory Provident Fund contributions
equivalent to 15% of the total basic salary drawn may be granted if the contract is satisfactorily completed with consistently high standard of performance and conduct.
