(a) To translate Chinese into English and vice versa;
(b) To vet English / Chinese documents and translations;
(c) To undertake administrative duties where necessary; and
(d) To perform other related duties as required.
[Note: The candidate appointed is required to work in an office of the Home Affairs Department or any of the District Offices as appropriate.]
Terms of Appointment
The successful applicant will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for a period of 12 months.
Salary and Fringe Benefits
$36,745 per month
Rest days, statutory holidays (or substitute holidays), annual leave, maternity leave, paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted on terms not less favourable than those provided for under the Employment Ordinance. A gratuity will be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. The amount of gratuity payable will be the sum which, when added to the Government’s contribution to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance (Cap. 485), equals 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
General Notes
(a) Applicants must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

If a disabled applicant meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to sit any written examination required under ‘Entry Requirements’ without being subject to any further shortlisting criteria. Applicants who have declared disabilities found suitable for appointment may be given an appropriate degree of preference over other applicants whose suitability for appointment is considered comparable to that of the former. (g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the enquiry address.

The completed application form, together with a detailed resume and a copy of each of relevant academic certificates, documentary proof of professional achievements and/or reference letters should reach the enquiry address not later than the closing date and time for applications. Please specify on the envelope ‘Application for the post of Contract Assistant Translator’. For postal applications, the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application.
