Mainly deployed on intellectual property legal work such as formulating policies, preparing law drafting instructions, administering the Trade Marks Ordinance, Patents Ordinance, Registered Designs Ordinance, Copyright Ordinance and Lay-out Design (Topography) of Integrated Circuits Ordinance, exercising quasi-judicial functions and handing down written decisions, providing legal advisory services to government, and promoting public awareness of intellectual property and the protection, management and commercialisation of the intellectual property rights.
Terms of Appointment
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of the probation bar, he/she may be appointed on the prevailing permanent terms.\r\n\r\n
Salary and Fringe Benefits
Master Pay Scale Point 32 ($70,465 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 44 ($110,170 per month). Subject to the prevailing situation, candidates may be considered for the granting of increments with additional relevant post-qualification experience in excess of the stipulated minimum requirement.
General Notes
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment.
(b) Applications from serving civil servants in the Solicitor rank of the Intellectual Property Department would not normally be considered.

(h) Where a large number of candidates meet the specified entry requirements, shortlisting criteria may be devised to select the better qualified candidates for further processing. In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the interview.
(i) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview without being subject to further shortlisting.
(j) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the above address.

(a) Completed application form [G.F. 340 (Rev.3/2013)] and a full curriculum vitae (C.V.) should be sent to the Administration Unit, Intellectual Property Department on 25/F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen’s Road East, Wanchai, Hong Kong not later than 29 May 2020, 6:00 p.m. (Hong Kong time). Please ensure that sufficient postage is paid if the application is sent by post. Underpaid mail items will be returned or disposed of by the Hongkong Post. The C.V. should at least include the following supporting documents –
(i) grading of the subjects taken in public examinations from secondary education onwards (with exact dates of scoring the results);
(ii) results in LLB, CPE, PCLL, Law Society Final and Bar Final examinations and other relevant qualifications, listing the gradings of the subjects taken (with copies of transcripts and certificates);
(iii) results of CRE language papers and Basic Law Test [Note(2)](if any);
(iv) exact date and place of admission or call (with copies of supporting documents);
(v) employment records with detailed description of duties; and
(vi) a written submission indicating the qualities possessed by the candidate which would qualify him or her for appointment.

The form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website at http://www.csb.gov.hk.
(c) On-line application can also be made through the Civil Service Bureau’s website at http://www.csb.gov.hk. Candidates who apply on-line should submit their C.V. by post with sufficient postage to the Administration Unit, Intellectual Property Department, 25/F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen’s Road East, Wanchai, Hong Kong within one week after the close of application period. On-line application number should be quoted on the envelope and the copies of supporting documents. Please specify on the envelope “Application for the post of Solicitor”. If candidates fail to provide the supporting documents as required, their applications will not be considered.
(d) If candidates do not receive an acknowledge slip/a confirmation e-mail within five working days after the closing date for application, please contact the Administration Unit at 2961 6887 immediately. Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation in about six to eight weeks after the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
