Entry Requirements

Applicants should -
(a) be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;
(b) be undergraduate students currently enrolled in full-time degree courses in Social Work & Social Administration, Applied Social Science, Public Administration and Management and related subject(s) of local / non-local post-secondary institutions entering Year 4 in the school year of 2020/21;
(c) have obtained Level 3 or above in both Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) or equivalent (Note: for appointment purpose, “Grade C” in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in previous HKCEE is accepted administratively as comparable to “Level 3” in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth);
(d) be proficient in Chinese typing and computer applications, such as MS Word, MS Excel and MS Powerpoint, etc.;
(e) have a good command of written Chinese and English, and be able to speak fluent Cantonese and English; and
(f) have good organisation and communication skills, with sense of responsibility and positive thinking.

The successful candidate will be required to
(a) assist in the daily operations of the District Office, such as community liaison, activities organizing, minor works etc.;
(b) assist in the District Council related duties;
(c) provide general administrative and management support, such as project planning, resource and records management, compilation of reports etc.;
(d) perform outdoor work as required; and/or
(e) perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisors.

Terms of Appointment

Summer student interns are employed on non-civil service contract terms for around 4-6 weeks from July to August 2020 (depending on office exigencies, the actual employment period for different cases may vary). Summer interns are normally required to work 44 hours per week and may also be required to work outside normal office hours, during weekends or public holidays. Overtime work, where necessary, will be compensated by time-off in lieu.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

HK$10,500 per month
Summer interns are eligible for rest days, statutory holidays, general holidays and sickness days. They are subject to the Mandatory Provident Fund Scheme Ordinance (Cap. 485).

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to any further shortlisting criteria. Applicants who have declared disabilities found suitable for appointment may be given an appropriate degree of preference over other applicants whose suitability for appointment is considered comparable to that of the former. (g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the below enquiry address.

How to apply

Application from Students Studying in Local Post-secondary Institutions:
Hong Kong students studying in local post-secondary institutions should apply through the Student Affairs Offices/Career Centres of their respective institutions. They are advised to note the deadlines set by the respective institutions. Direct applications from local students will not be considered.

Application from Students Studying in Non-local Post-secondary Institutions:
Students studying in non-local post-secondary institutions should download application forms from the Civil Service Bureau's web site (http://www.csb.gov.hk/english/admin/appoint/782.html). The completed application form, together with the applicant’s resume, copies of official transcripts and a letter certifying the student status (bearing the letter head of the post-secondary institutions they are currently enrolled on) should reach the enquiry address below by post on or before 16 June 2020. Applications not made in the prescribed application forms for the summer internship programme (rev.1/2020), or submitted by fax / e-mail will not be accepted.

Please mark “Application for the Summer Intern” on the envelope. (The postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application.) Applicants should ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage is affixed before posting to avoid unsuccessful delivery of application. Any underpaid mail items will be returned or disposed of by the Hongkong Post. Applications which are late, incomplete or without the relevant supporting documents will not be considered. Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation in about four weeks from the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.

Applicants are reminded to provide a valid email address to facilitate communication. Candidates should bring along the following documents when attending the interview: (i) HKID Card; and (ii) original of the academic transcripts of current study and certificates of HKDSEE/HKCEE or equivalent. Chinese typing test may be required during the interview.
