Entry Requirements

Candidates should :
(a) be able to communicate effectively in Chinese or English, both in written and spoken forms; and
(b) be proficient in Bahasa Indonesia, Nepali, Urdu, Punjabi, Tagalog, Thai, Hindi or Vietnamese, in written and spoken forms.

Preference will be given to candidates with relevant working experience in social welfare organizations and knowledge in receiving the public, running programmes, publicity and promotional work, or with proficiency in Cantonese.

(1) Candidates will be required to pass a language test.
(2) Successful candidates will be assigned to work in the Medical Social Services Units of major hospitals.
(3) Successful candidates may be required to work overtime and irregular hours, on shift and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. 

Duties

An Ethnic Minority District Ambassador is mainly deployed to –
(a) assist in providing simple interpretation and translation service to ethnic minorities (EMs) to introduce the welfare services and facilitate them to fill in application forms if needed;
(b) assist in manning the reception counters and receive incoming calls;
(c) assist in providing escort services for EMs;
(d) assist in preparing and conducting activities and programmes, including but not limited to those for EMs;
(e) assist in the production of publicity/promotion materials in EM language(s); and
(f) other assigned duties.

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for 12 months. The offer of further appointment beyond the existing contract is subject to the service need and the satisfactory performance and conduct of the appointee.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

HK$14,600 per month
The benefits in respect of rest days, statutory holidays, annual leave, maternity/paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions in the Employment Ordinance.

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

Application Forms [G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)] are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centre of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centre of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s web site (http://www.csb.gov.hk).

Candidates are requested to indicate in the section under “Professional Qualifications” on the application form [G.F. 340 (Rev.3/2013)] the language(s) they are proficient in, and provide a detailed description of duties of all full-time employments, in particular, the working experience in social welfare organizations, or relevant working experience in receiving the public, running programmes, publicity and promotional work.

Applications submitted in person or by post should reach the contact address on or before the closing date for application (the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application). Please specify on the envelope “Application for the post of Ethnic Minority District Ambassador”.

To avoid delayed and unsuccessful delivery of applications by post, applicants should ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been affixed before posting. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate.
