Entry Requirements

(a) A Hong Kong bachelor's degree, majoring in English Language, English Literature, English Studies, Linguistics (with English being the major language studied), or a Hong Kong Bachelor of Education degree majoring in English (excluding at primary or kindergarten level), or equivalent [See Note (i)];
(b) A certificate in education from a Hong Kong tertiary educational institution majoring in English, or equivalent [See Note (i)];
(c) Preference will be given to candidates who possess a higher degree or above in English Language education;
(d) Met the language proficiency requirements of \"Level 3\" or above in English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [See Note (ii)];
(e) At least 6 years' post-degree English teaching experience at the secondary school level[See Note (iii)];
(f) Experience in English Language Education curriculum development, promoting one of the following at the junior secondary level: e-learning, special educational needs/differentiated instruction or coordinating inter-school English Language Education-related competitions is an advantage; and
(g) Good spoken and written English.
Remarks
(i) Candidates should mark clearly on their application forms the major and minor subjects studied in their degree courses. Candidates possessing additional qualifications (e.g. a second/higher degree in a relevant subject) should include details in their applications.
(ii) For appointment purpose, 'Grade C' in English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to 'Level 3' in English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(iii) Candidates should state the nature and relevancy of the post-degree experience.
 

Duties

(a) To assist the Regional NET Coordinating Team (RNCT) head in planning, monitoring and evaluating the annual competitions for secondary students organised by the team, including setting the direction, liaising with competition partners, planning and developing the related workshops, and providing administration support;
(b) To supervise a team of Regional NET Coordinators in the school-based support they provide for schools;
(c) To organise and conduct centralised, regional, district-based and school-based professional development seminars and workshops for secondary English teachers, including NETs;
(d) To develop materials and strategies which support the learning and teaching of Secondary English Language curriculum;
(e) To act as a curriculum leader to support NETs and other English panel members in the development of a school-based English Language curriculum and the implementation of the recommendations from the relevant English Language curriculum documents published by the Education Bureau and Curriculum Development Council;
(f) To provide on-site support for schools participating in collaborative research and development projects;
(g) To assist in collecting, compiling and analysing data on the deployment of NETs in secondary schools under the Enhanced NET Scheme;
(h) To perform administrative duties related to the day-to-day operation of the RNCT; and
(i) To undertake any other duties as assigned.

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidates will be employed on non-civil service contract terms for 1 year.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

$74,515 per month
(a) 14 days annual leave and full pay sickness allowance whereas rest days, statutory holidays(or substituted holidays), maternity leave, where appropriate, will be granted in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance. (b) A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 10% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
