Entry Requirements

Candidates should have:
(a) a Diploma / Higher Certificate in Computer Assisted Cartography, Digital Mapping or Geomatics from a Hong Kong polytechnic / polytechnic university, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education or technical institute / technical college or equivalent; and
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 [Note 1] or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent.
Remarks
(1) For non-civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in previous HKCEE is accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(2) Candidates will be required to pass an assessment on their colour vision for performing duties relating to preparation of maps and charts.
 

Duties

A Contract Technical Officer (Cartographic) is mainly deployed on:
(a) preparing colour maps, plans, photomaps, charts and miscellaneous drawings;
(b) performing data gathering, compilation and processing;
(c) maintaining office records and compiling production statistics;
(d) maintaining cadastral, mapping and related databases;
(e) participating in computer system administration and design; and
(f) providing customer service in the sale and promotion of map products.

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for 1 year.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

$19,930 per month
(a) A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract period with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
(b) Rest days, statutory holidays, annual leave, maternity leave or paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted on terms no less favourable than the provisions of the Employment Ordinance.

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. Completed application forms, together with photocopies of relevant certificates and transcripts in support of academic qualifications, should reach the enquiry address indicated on or before the closing date for application with the envelope clearly marked 'Application for the post of Contract Technical Officer (Cartographic)'. Online application can also be made through the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Candidates who apply online should submit copies of their certificates and transcripts in support of academic qualifications within one week after close of application period to the enquiry address, and the online application number should be quoted on the envelope and the copies of supporting documents.
