Entry Requirements

Candidates should have: (i) completed Form 4, or equivalent (subjects include Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics); and (ii) attained a level of proficiency in Chinese and English Languages equivalent to Form 4 standard.
Remarks
For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test results will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.
 

Duties

A Meter Reader II is mainly deployed on reading water meters and performing other minor on site inspection duties.
(Note: required to wear uniform while on duty.)

Terms of Appointment

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Master Pay Scale Point 2 ($13,870) per month to Master Pay Scale Point 11 ($24,270) per month.

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. How to apply

Application forms G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013) are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centre of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centre of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk).

Candidates must state clearly the results achieved in Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics in the school or public examinations on the application forms. Completed application forms together with copies of supporting documents of the (a) academic qualifications (including photocopies of certificates or transcripts showing you have completed Form 4, or equivalent with subjects include Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics); and (b) attainment of a level of proficiency in Chinese and English Languages equivalent to Form 4 standard (including photocopies of certificates or transcripts showing you have obtained a “pass” grade in Chinese and English Languages) submitted in person or by post should reach the enquiry address on or before the closing date for application. Please specify “Application for Meter Reader II” on the envelope. To avoid delayed or unsuccessful delivery of applications by post, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been affixed before posting. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate. Applicants will bear any consequences arising from paying insufficient postage.

On-line application can also be made through the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Candidates who apply on-line should submit copies of the required supporting documents by hand or by post to the enquiry address on or before 10 January 2020. The on-line application number should be quoted on the envelope and on every page of the copies of the supporting documents.

If applications are late, incomplete, not made in the prescribed form, submitted by fax or email, you fail to state clearly the results achieved in the subjects required or you fail to provide copies of the required supporting documents or the required supporting documents are received after the above specified dates or are insufficient, such applications will NOT be considered.

Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation in about ten to fourteen weeks from the closing date for application. Longer time may be required under certain circumstances, e.g. when a large number of applications are received. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
