Entry Requirements

Candidates should have (a) a Diploma or Higher Certificate in Electronics Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Computer and Information Engineering from a Hong Kong polytechnic university / polytechnic, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education or a technical institute / technical college, or equivalent; (b) three years’ post-qualification experience in the installation, maintenance and operation of telecommunications, electronic or information & communications technology equipment, or equivalent (the relevant experience in the installation, maintenance and operation of information & communications technology equipment should include operation, troubleshooting and support in IT infrastructure, or server including OS and hardware); and (c) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, or equivalent (See Note 1). Preference will be given to candidates who have acquired a recognized safety and health supervisor training.
Remarks
1. For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ and ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth. 2. For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate’s overall assessment. 3. Candidates should indicate relevant information in the application forms if they have the relevant experience (including the type of systems operated / maintained)/ recognized training as stated under “Entry Requirements”.
 

Duties

(i) Assistant Electronics Inspectors are mainly deployed on assisting Electronics Inspectors and Electronics Engineers in (a) feasibility study, investigation, analysis, report writing, design, installation, operation, inspection, testing and commissioning, maintenance and repair in relation to a wide range of electronics equipment and systems including audio visual, medical electronics, computer control and information & communications technology equipment and system; (b) design, procurement, assessment, project management and other technical services; (c) contract management and supervising frontline electronics technical staff and contractors; and (d) administrative works including workshop management, preparation of analysis and investigation report.
(ii) Successful candidates may be posted to other departments and may be required: (a) to work irregular hours / in remote areas / in harsh condition; (b) to perform shift duty / stand-by duty / on-call duty / emergency duty; (c) to wear uniform / protective clothing; (d) to carry pager / mobile phone; (e) to work with computer; and (f) to perform any other duties as specified from time to time. Successful candidates may also be required to perform self-drive duty (training will be provided where necessary) on a voluntary basis.

Terms of Appointment

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

General Notes

(A) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(I) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions / Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.
