Entry Requirements

(a) Obtained education level at Primary 6 or above, or equivalent.

Duties

(a) To assist in the operation of the Home Affairs Department’s temporary shelters/temporary cold shelters/temporary night heat shelters in Community Halls and Community Centres when activated, including registration of shelter users, distributing meals, handling enquiries and complaints, patrolling the shelter and overseeing the work of contractual staff (such as security guards and cleansing staff); and
(b) To handle any other appropriate duties assigned.

Terms of Appointment

(1) Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms;\r\n(2) A contract shorter than 12 months may be offered to successful candidates. Further renewal to be subject to satisfactory performance and operational needs;\r\n(3) The entry pay, terms of appointment and conditions of service to be offered are subjected to the provisions prevailing at the time the offer of appointment is made; and\r\n(4) Successful candidates are required to work at irregular hours (when Cold Weather Warning / Very Hot Weather Warning is in force or any other sudden occurrences) including Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.

$82.4 per hour (between 5:30 pm and 8:30 am the next day)

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(f) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to any further shortlisting criteria.
(g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. (1) Application Forms [G.F. 340(Rev. 3/2013)] are obtainable from Home Affairs Enquiry Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or Job Centres of Labour Department. The form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk).
(2) Completed application forms together with a copy for each of relevant academic qualifications (including copies of certificates) should reach the enquiry address below by post or in person on or before the closing date. For submission by post, the deadline is based on the stamp chop date. Please ensure that sufficient postage is paid. Any underpaid mail items will be handled by the Hongkong Post and applications will not be considered. For submission in person, the application should reach the enquiry address below by 6 p.m. of the closing date. Please specify on the envelope “Application for the Post of Shelter Assistant (Part-time)”. Late applications, or applications which are incomplete, or not made in prescribed form, or submitted by fax/ email, or without the relevant supporting documents will not be considered.
(3) Candidates who are selected for interviews should bring their Hong Kong Identity Card, original copies of relevant supporting documents and a recent passport-size photograph to attend the interview.
(4) Applicants who are not invited for interview within 6 to 8 weeks from the closing date may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
(5) Candidates who are selected for interviews may receive invitations by email. Applicants should provide clearly their email addresses on their application forms. Applicants are responsible for checking their emails to ensure that invitation or notification will be duly received.
