Entry Requirements

(a) (I)(i) Level 2 or equivalent [Note (2) under Entry Requirements] or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) [Note (3) under Entry Requirements], or equivalent; or (ii) Level 2 [Note (4) under Entry Requirements] / Grade E or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) [Note (3) under Entry Requirements], or equivalent (entry pay: HK$22,405 per month); or
(II)(i) Level 2 or equivalent [Note (2) under Entry Requirements] or above in three subjects in HKDSEE [Note (3) under Entry Requirements], or equivalent; or (ii) Level 2 [Note (4) under Entry Requirements] / Grade E or above in three subjects in HKCEE [Note (3) under Entry Requirements], or equivalent (entry pay: HK$21,780 per month); or
(III) completed Secondary 5, or equivalent (entry pay: HK$21,150 per month); and

(b) meet the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 [Note (4) under Entry Requirements] or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent; and be able to speak fluent Cantonese and English; and

(c) pass a physical fitness test [Note (5) under Entry Requirements].
Remarks
(1) Entry pay is General Disciplined Services (Rank and File) Pay Scale Point 2 (HK$21,150 per month), 3 (HK$21,780 per month) or 4 (HK$22,405 per month), as commensurate with the respective entry qualifications.

(2) For civil service appointment purpose, “Attained with Distinction (I)” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and ‘Grade C’ in Other Language subjects in HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 3’ in the New Senior Secondary subjects in HKDSEE. “Attained” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and ‘Grade E’ in Other Language subjects in HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 2’ in the New Senior Secondary subjects in HKDSEE.

(3) The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language.

(4) For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ and ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.

(5) Candidates may refer to the Correctional Services Department’s website (http://www.csd.gov.hk) for details. Those who have passed the physical fitness test will be invited to attend a group interview on the same day. Candidates who have passed the group interview will be invited to attend the aptitude test and final interview. The aptitude test and final interview will be scheduled on one day. Only those candidates who passed all tests and interviews will be considered for appointment.

(6) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. Candidates who are invited to attend the aptitude test and final interview will be assessed on their BL knowledge through a written test on the same day. The BL test result will be one of the considerations to assess the suitability of a candidate.

(7) Candidates should possess the relevant academic qualifications by the date of aptitude test and final interview.
 

Duties

Supervise persons in custody, young persons in a training/rehabilitation centre and drug dependants in a drug addiction treatment centre; and perform any other duties as required.
(Note: Subject to the provisions of the Prisons Ordinance, an Assistant Officer II is required to wear uniform and work shifts and may be required to undertake hospital nursing duties after in-service training and live in departmental quarters.)

Terms of Appointment

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of the probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

General Notes

(a) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.
