Entry Requirements

Candidates should -
(a) have 2 years' relevant experience in land/engineering survey; and
(b) be able to communicate in Cantonese/Chinese and simple English, read simple Chinese and simple English, and write simple Chinese and simple English.
(Note: Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.)
Remarks
For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.
 

Duties

A Chainman is mainly deployed on –
(a) assisting members of the Survey Officer or Land Surveyor Grades to carry out survey work in the field;
(b) undertaking the preparation, transportation and maintenance of survey equipment, tools and materials for field survey operations;
(c) maintaining the order and cleanliness of the survey store; and
(d) assisting in training Workmen II.
(Note: Chainman may be required to work irregular hours; and work and camp in any part of the territory.)

Terms of Appointment

New appointees will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, the officer may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Master Pay Scale Point 5 (HK$17,675) to Master Pay Scale Point 8 (HK$21,340) per month.

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.
