Entry Requirements

The post is open to both male and female applicants. Candidates should be able to –

(a) communicate in Cantonese/Chinese and simple English;

(b) read simple Chinese and simple English; and

(c) write simple Chinese or simple English.

(Remark: Candidates will be required to pass a trade test [Notes 2 – 4].)

Remarks
(1) The information on the monthly salary and maximum pay point is for reference only and may be subject to changes.

(2) A trade test will be conduct during the selection interview. Candidates who are invited for the trade tests and selection interviews will normally receive an invitation in about 14 to 18 weeks from the closing date for application. Longer time may be required under certain circumstances, e.g. when a large number of applications are received. Those who are not invited for trade tests and selection interviews may assume that their applications are unsuccessful. An invitation to the trade test and selection interview does not imply that the candidate meet the entry requirements of the post he / she has applied for.

(3) Applicants should note that the trade tests and selection interviews will be conducted in Hong Kong only.

(4) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.

(5) This is a recruitment jointly conducted by the Legal Aid Department and the Office of the Government Chief Information Office. Applicants are only required to submit one application form. Successful candidates will be under the grade management of the head of the department to which they are appointed.

Duties

A Workman II is mainly deployed on –

(a) indoor and outdoor receipt and despatch duties;

(b) general labour duties such as loading and unloading departmental vehicles, moving stores, furniture, office equipment and other bulky items;

(c) general office support duties including photocopying work, meeting venue set-up, operating simple office equipment, opening and locking office doors, and manning reception counters;

(d) cleaning and tidying work in office areas; and

(e) pantry duties such as boiling water, cleaning tea urns and replenishing distilled water.

(Remark: Workmen II may be required to work shifts, irregular hours, overtime, outdoor and in adverse weather conditions. They are subject to posting and transfer within the department to which they are appointed, and are also subject to posting to fill vacancies and carry out different duties in the same grade in other bureaux / departments when the need arises.)

Terms of Appointment

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, the officer may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 0 ($13,730 per month) to Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 8 ($16,175 per month) [Note 1]

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(g) Where a large number of candidates meet the specified entry requirements, the recruiting department may devise shortlisting criteria to select the better qualified candidates for further processing. In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend trade tests and selection interviews.

(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he / she will be invited to attend trade test and selection interview without being subject to further shortlisting. Applicants who have declared disabilities found suitable for appointment may be given an appropriate degree of preference over other applicants whose suitability for appointment is considered comparable to that of the former. (i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions / Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should refer to “How to Apply” and submit the supporting documents as required.

(j) Towards the application deadline, our on-line system would likely be overloaded due to large volume of applications. To ensure timely completion of your on-line application, it is advisable to submit the application as early as possible.

All applications must be submitted on or before 10 July 2020 (Friday) at 6:00 p.m. Hong Kong Time. Applicants should state in detail in their application forms their academic qualifications, skills and each working experience. Applicants may [Note 5] –

(a) make on-line application through the Civil Service Bureau’s website at www.csb.gov.hk; or

(b) send the completed application form [G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)] [Note 6] by post / by hand to the Personnel Registry, Legal Aid Department, Room 2715, 27th Floor, High Block, Queensway Government Offices, 66 Queensway, Hong Kong, in a sealed envelope clearly marked “Application for Workman II”. For submission by post, the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application. To avoid delayed or unsuccessful delivery of mail items, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been affixed before posting. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Office and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate. Applicants will bear any consequences arising from paying insufficient postage.

Apart from submitting the application forms, applicants should also submit copies of documents in support of academic qualifications (if applicable), skills (if applicable) and each working experience on or before the below deadline by post / by hand to the below address in a sealed envelope clearly marked “Application for Workman II”.

For submission of supporting documents by post / by hand, applicants’ full name and the on-line application number (only for candidates who submitted on-line application) should be quoted on the copies of the supporting documents.

If applications are late or incomplete, or not made in the prescribed form [G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)], or submitted by fax or by e-mail, or the required supporting documents are not submitted, or are submitted after the above deadline, or are insufficient, such applications will not be considered.
