Entry Requirements

Candidates should be able to -

(a) communicate in Chinese and simple English;

(b) read simple Chinese and simple English; and

(c) write simple Chinese or simple English.

(Remark: Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.)
Remarks
(i) The post is open to both male and female applicants.

(ii) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.

 

Duties

A Workman II is mainly deployed on all types of indoor and / or outdoor manual work in various divisions and sections of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, covering -

(a) recreation and amenities duties, such as assisting in simple gardening work, looking after animals / birds, performing cleansing duties and moving furniture and equipment in sports grounds, parks and playgrounds, etc.;

(b) cultural and entertainment duties, such as delivery and collection of stores / equipment / library materials / museum collections / construction materials for exhibitions, setting up of stages, arrangement of seats, distribution and posting up of publicity materials, plant watering, and assisting in carpentry work and stock-taking in museum workshops and material stores as well as installation and dismantling of display materials, etc.; and / or

(c) messengerial and simple office duties, such as mailing letters, dispatching documents, providing printing / photo-copying / pantry / reception services, opening / locking office entrances, and moving office furniture and equipment, etc.

[Note: Candidates should note the following -

(i) they will be required to work 45 hours net per week (excluding meal breaks);

(ii) they may be required to work irregular hours and shifts (including Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays). Actual working hours will be arranged by supervisors;

(iii) they may be required to wear uniform;

(iv) they may be required to undergo relevant training and / or related assessment;

(v) they may be required to perform outdoor duties;

(vi) they are subject to posting and transfer and required to work in remote areas (including outlying islands); and

(vii) they are subject to posting to fill vacancies and carry out duties in the same grade in other bureaux / departments when the need arises.]

Terms of Appointment

A new appointee will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 0 (HK$13,730) per month to Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 8 (HK$16,175) per month

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. (i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. How to apply

Application forms (G.F. 340 [(Rev. 3/2013)]) are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centre of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Online application can also be made through the Internet at the same website. Completed applications should reach the contact address not later than 6 p.m., 23 July 2020, with the envelopes clearly marked “Application for the post of Workman II”. For application submitted by post, the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application. Please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage is affixed before posting so as to avoid unsuccessful delivery of application. Any underpaid mail items will be returned or disposed of by the Hongkong Post. Applicants should state clearly in their applications details of their working experience. Applications which are incomplete, submitted by fax or by e-mail, late, not duly signed by the applicants or not made in the prescribed form will not be considered.

Candidates who are selected for trade test / interview will normally receive an invitation within four months from the closing date for application. This period may be longer in exceptional circumstances, e.g. when a large number of applications are received. Those who are not invited for trade test / interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
