Entry Requirements

The post is open to both male and female applicants. Candidates should –

(a) have completed Primary 6 education, or equivalent;

(b) be able to communicate in Chinese and simple English;

(c) be able to read simple Chinese and simple English; and

(d) be able to write simple Chinese or simple English.

(Note: Candidates will be required to pass a trade test. Candidates who are invited for the trade test will normally receive the invitation by email or by post in about eight to twelve weeks after the closing date for application. Applicants are encouraged to provide their email address on the application forms. Candidates who are not invited for the trade test or the subsequent selection interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.)
Remarks
For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (“BL”) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.
 

Duties

A Workman II is mainly deployed to perform –

(a) general manual duties such as delivering bulky despatches, clearing of in / out trays, moving files / stores / furniture / office equipment and assisting in the setting-up of venues for meetings and functions;

(b) cleaning and tidying work in Judiciary premises and other work places;

(c) messengerial duties including indoor and outdoor by-hand / receipt and delivery of documents, files and other mailing services;

(d) general office support work such as reception duties at counter, answering telephone calls and simple enquiries, opening / locking of office doors, faxing / duplicating / sorting / binding / shredding of documents, retrieval / shelving of records and related duties; and

(e) pantry duties and tea service.

A Workman II is subject to posting and transfer within the Judiciary. He / She may be required to work irregular hours, overtime and in adverse weather condition.

Terms of Appointment

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he / she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms. Successful candidates are subject to posting to fill vacancies and carry out different duties in the same grade in other government bureaux / departments when the need arises.

General Notes

(1) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(7) Where a large number of candidates meet the specified entry requirements, the Judiciary may devise shortlisting criteria to select the better qualified candidates for further processing. In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the trade test and the subsequent selection interview.

(8) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the specified entry requirements, he / she will be invited to attend the trade test and the subsequent selection interview after he / she has passed the trade test without being subject to further shortlisting. Applicants who have declared disabilities found suitable for appointment may be given an appropriate degree of preference over other applicants whose suitability for appointment is considered comparable to that of the former. How to apply

Application Forms [G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)] are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk).

Applicants must state in detail in the application forms their academic qualifications and work experience which they have attained by the closing date for application, including the exact start and end dates of their period(s) of employment. Completed application forms, together with (i) ALL copies of official certificates and transcripts of their academic qualifications; and (ii) ALL copies of proof of their work experience specifying their period(s) of employment, should reach the following contact address by post or by hand on or before 20 May 2022 at 5:00 p.m. (Hong Kong Time). Please note that declarations in any form are not accepted. Please specify “Application for the post of Workman II” on the envelope.

Online applications can also be made through the Civil Service Bureau’s website stated above. Applicants who apply online should submit copies of the required supporting documents by post or by hand to the following contact address within one week after the closing date of application (i.e. on or before 27 May 2022 at 5:00 p.m. (Hong Kong Time)). The online application number should be quoted on the envelope and on every page of the copies of the supporting documents.

If the application form and / or supporting documents are sent by post, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been paid before posting so as to avoid unsuccessful delivery of mail items. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to the Judiciary and will be returned to the sender (if a return address is provided) or disposed of in accordance with the established procedures of the Hongkong Post. Applicants will bear any consequences arising from paying insufficient postage. The postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of submission of the application form and / or copies of supporting documents. If the application form and/or copies of supporting documents are delivered by hand, an acknowledgement of receipt will immediately be issued by the Judiciary.

Applications which are late, incomplete, not duly signed, submitted by fax or email, without the required supporting documents, or not made in the prescribed form [G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)] will NOT be considered. Online applications without the required supporting documents sent on or before 27 May 2022 at 5:00 p.m. (Hong Kong Time) will NOT be considered.
