Entry Requirements

Candidate should –
(a)(i) be solicitors with at least three years’ professional experience since admission in Hong Kong or any one of the recognised jurisdictions as stipulated under Section 2A and Schedule 2 of the Legal Officers Ordinance (Cap. 87); or
(ii) be barristers with at least four years’ professional experience since attaining the right to full practice in Hong Kong or any one of the recognised jurisdictions as stipulated under Section 2A and Schedule 2 of the Legal Officers Ordinance (Cap. 87); or
(iii) be foreign lawyers registered under the Legal Practitioners Ordinance (Cap. 159) with at least three years’ professional experience; and
(b) have attained Level 2 or above in English Language and Chinese Language in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) or Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or equivalent (Note: For non-civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in English Language (Syllabus B) and Chinese Language in HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in English Language and Chinese Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth. Candidates who do not possess the requisite Chinese language proficiency may also be appointed subject to the operational needs of the Department.
Remarks
1. Candidates with written and oral proficiency in language(s) other than English and Chinese will have an advantage.
2. Candidates with a minimum of 1 year's professional experience for solicitors, or 2 years' professional experience for barristers or for registered foreign lawyers, but lower than the stipulated entry requirements may also apply. Successful candidates thus selected will be offered a salary below HK$60,000 but no less than HK$50,000 a month.
3. Successful candidates will be offered a salary that is commensurate with his or her professional experience.
 

Duties

To undertake work for the Department of Justice relating to enhancing and promoting Hong Kong's status as an international legal hub for deal-making and dispute resolution (including work on the initiative of Vision 2030 for Rule of Law and related work), which includes but not limited to (a) organising promotional and capacity building events with stakeholders in Hong Kong and overseas; (b) conducting public education and engagement activities; and (c) conducting legal research and studies.

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for up to 12 months subject to operational needs.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

HK$60,000 – 90,000 per month
(1) Upon satisfactory completion of the contract, the appointee will be eligible for an end-of-contract gratuity which, when added together with the Government’s contribution to the Mandatory Provident Fund Scheme, will be equal to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
(2) Include an annual leave of 14 days per year of service; full pay sick leave in accordance with the provisions of the contract; and maternity/paternity leave, where appropriate.

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise. Candidates should apply in writing with a completed application form [G.F. 340 (Rev.3/2013)] which is obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The C.V. should include (a) gradings of the subjects taken in public examinations from secondary education onwards (with exact dates of scoring the results); (b) results of LLB and PCLL or other legal professional examinations, listing the gradings of the subjects taken (with copies of transcripts and certificates); (c) exact date and place of admission/call; and (d) employment records with detailed description of duties. Applications with incomplete or unclear information will not be considered. Applicants are encouraged to provide their email addresses on the application forms. To avoid delayed or unsuccessful delivery of applications by post, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been affixed before posting.
